The platform

Focused on the everyday issues that shape life in Ward 2.

A practical platform built around safer neighbourhoods, responsible decisions, strong community connections, and accountable local government.

Responsible Growth & Infill

The Issue

Ward 2 residents are concerned about the pace and scale of infill development. New builds are changing the character of established neighbourhoods, and residents worry about density, parking, tree canopy loss, and whether infrastructure can keep up with growth.

Glenn's Position

Glenn supports balanced growth that meets housing needs while respecting neighbourhood character. Development should be thoughtful, not rushed, and residents should have a meaningful voice in planning decisions that affect their streets.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate for transparent planning processes, stronger community consultation requirements, and development standards that protect tree canopy, manage stormwater, and ensure adequate parking. He will push for infrastructure investments that keep pace with growth.

Jurisdiction Note

Planning and development decisions are made by Town Council. Glenn will work to ensure Ward 2 residents have a strong voice in these decisions.

Fiscal Accountability

The Issue

Residents want to know their tax dollars are being spent wisely. With rising costs and budget pressures, there are questions about whether the Town is prioritizing the right projects and delivering value for money.

Glenn's Position

Glenn believes in transparent budgeting and responsible spending. Every dollar spent should be justified, and residents should be able to see where their money is going and what outcomes are being achieved.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate for clear budget reporting, performance metrics for Town services, and regular public updates on major projects. He will ask tough questions about spending priorities and push for efficiency without compromising service quality.

Jurisdiction Note

Town Council approves the annual budget and sets tax rates. Glenn will work to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency in all budget decisions.

Safe Public Spaces

The Issue

Residents have raised concerns about safety and comfort in public spaces, including libraries, parks, and community facilities. Issues like disruptive behaviour, substance use, and inadequate security can make these spaces feel unwelcoming.

Glenn's Position

Glenn believes public spaces should be safe, welcoming, and accessible for everyone. Addressing safety concerns requires a balanced approach that includes support services, community engagement, and appropriate security measures.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate for increased security presence in public facilities, better coordination with York Regional Police and social services, and community-based solutions that address root causes while ensuring public spaces remain welcoming for all residents.

Jurisdiction Note

Town Council oversees public facilities and can work with York Regional Police and social service agencies. Glenn will coordinate with regional and provincial partners to address these concerns.

Road Safety

The Issue

Traffic safety is a major concern in Ward 2, particularly on Yonge Street, Bayview Avenue, Leslie Street, Bathurst Street, and Green Lane. Residents report speeding, dangerous intersections, and inadequate pedestrian infrastructure. Many of these roads are regional highways, which complicates local efforts to improve safety.

Glenn's Position

Glenn believes road safety is a top priority. Whether a road is municipal or regional, residents deserve safe streets, protected crossings, and traffic calming measures that reduce speeding and collisions.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate for traffic calming measures on municipal roads and work with York Region to push for safety improvements on regional highways. He will support pedestrian infrastructure, better signage, and enforcement measures to reduce speeding and improve safety for all road users.

Jurisdiction Note

Yonge, Bayview, Leslie, Bathurst, and Green Lane are York Region roads. Glenn will work with regional councillors and staff to advocate for safety improvements on these routes, while pushing for municipal action on local streets.

Affordable Housing

The Issue

Housing affordability is a challenge across Ontario, and Newmarket is no exception. Rising home prices and rents are making it difficult for young families, seniors, and lower-income residents to find housing they can afford.

Glenn's Position

Glenn supports diverse housing options that meet the needs of all residents. This includes rental housing, affordable ownership options, and supportive housing for vulnerable populations. Housing policy must balance growth with affordability and livability.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate for inclusionary zoning policies, partnerships with non-profit housing providers, and incentives for developers to include affordable units in new projects. He will also push for provincial and federal funding to support affordable housing initiatives in Newmarket.

Jurisdiction Note

Town Council can implement inclusionary zoning and work with developers, but affordable housing funding comes primarily from provincial and federal governments. Glenn will advocate at all levels to support housing affordability.

Climate-Smart Infrastructure

The Issue

Climate change is affecting Newmarket through more frequent extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall, flooding, and heat waves. Residents are concerned about stormwater management, tree canopy loss, and whether the Town is prepared for future climate impacts.

Glenn's Position

Glenn believes Newmarket must invest in climate-smart infrastructure that protects residents and the environment. This includes green infrastructure, stormwater management, tree planting, and energy-efficient buildings.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate for increased investment in stormwater infrastructure, tree canopy protection and expansion, green building standards for new developments, and climate adaptation planning. He will push for sustainable infrastructure that reduces environmental impact and prepares Newmarket for future climate challenges.

Jurisdiction Note

Town Council can set environmental standards, invest in green infrastructure, and implement climate adaptation plans. Glenn will work to make climate action a priority in all Town decisions.

Healthcare Access

The Issue

Access to healthcare is a growing concern in Newmarket. Residents struggle to find family doctors, wait times at Southlake Regional Health Centre are long, and mental health services are limited. While healthcare is primarily a provincial responsibility, residents want their local councillor to advocate for better access.

Glenn's Position

Glenn believes healthcare access is a critical issue, even though it falls outside municipal jurisdiction. Local councillors can and should advocate for their communities at the provincial level and work to attract healthcare services to Newmarket.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate to the provincial government for increased healthcare funding, more family doctors, and expanded mental health services in Newmarket. He will work with Southlake and other healthcare providers to identify gaps and push for solutions. While he cannot directly control healthcare policy, Glenn will be a strong voice for Ward 2 residents.

Jurisdiction Note

Healthcare is a provincial responsibility. Glenn will advocate to the provincial government and work with local healthcare providers to improve access for Newmarket residents.

Inclusive Representation

The Issue

Ward 2 is a diverse community, and residents want to see that diversity reflected in local government. Too often, certain voices are heard more than others, and some residents feel disconnected from municipal decision-making.

Glenn's Position

Glenn believes every resident deserves to be heard, regardless of background, income, or how long they have lived in Newmarket. Inclusive representation means actively seeking out diverse perspectives and ensuring all voices are part of the conversation.

What Glenn Will Advocate For

Glenn will advocate for inclusive consultation processes, multilingual communication, and outreach to underrepresented communities. He will hold regular community meetings, respond to resident concerns, and ensure Ward 2 has a strong, accessible voice at council.

Jurisdiction Note

Town Council sets the tone for community engagement and representation. Glenn will work to ensure all Ward 2 residents feel heard and represented in municipal decisions.
